Swedish School of Indianapolis was founded in the spring of 2008 by Swedish-speaking parents in and around Indianapolis, Indiana. We meet most Sundays at the King of Glory Lutheran Church in Carmel, IN.
Our mission is to provide supplemental instruction in Swedish to kids with Swedish as a second language at home. On each occasion, their fluency is developed a little more by reading books, working with modern instructional books and, above all, by speaking Swedish with each other. Great emphasis is also placed on cultural events such as Lucia, Christmas, Fat Tuesday, Waffle Day, Easter and Midsummer.
The school consists of approx. 10-15 children 5-13 years of age, in addition to several preschool-aged children. We typically meet for about 2 hours a couple of Sundays every month. In addition to small fees for the participating children, we also receive government grants by the Swedish National Agency for Education as we follow the curriculum of supplemental instruction in Swedish. We also gladly accept donations. All donations are tax deductible and much appreciated!
We are centrally located in Indiana and our children come from many nearby towns such as Indianapolis,Carmel, Greenwood, Zionsville, Fishers, and Lafayette.
